In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar.
Mix well.
Gradually add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients.
Stir until a soft dough forms.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.
Divide the dough into equal-sized portions and roll each portion into a long rope.
Place the ropes onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each breadstick.
Brush the breadsticks with olive oil and sprinkle with salt or your desired seasonings.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
Enjoy your freshly baked breadsticks as a snack, appetiser, or accompaniment to your favourite pasta dish.
